['ramp] - debris

breathtaking in its electronic outreach, utterly compelling in how it depicts the noises emitted by voids starless and bible black, the enigmatically coined ['ramp], one stephen parsick, is that rare breed, a musician whose mindset looks far beyond the trappings of common denominator genre music.

the mighty sequencersurge that so characterizes parsicks brethren plays its role, but equally so does a battalion of now-fashionable analog gear, the better to create [ramp]s omniscient and forbidding gulfs of sound.

the word doombient was coined some years back to describe the muses tugging at [ramp]s art from such vast, incorporeal distances, but in the end, terminology like berlin school, ambient, or even experimental becomes mere verbal flotsam.

parsick in fact wields his waveforms like some aural scythe in order to realize his wholly disarming permutations. where others equate minimalism with ingenuity, largesse with ideation, ['ramp]s music oozes dazzling electrical soul. thats right, soul: every yawning chasm of a chord, every burnished rhythm stripped from the mainframes of parsicks synths exudes both palpable energy and austere beauty. not only daring to look in the face of the gorgon and living to tell about it, ['ramp] merge within its matrix enough of those mythical phantasms to twirl our lobes a degree or two. few electronic archaeologists can excavate such soundworlds with conviction, but parsick succeeds in doing so, digging deep into the current, a raider of the lost arp.
